I've come across this video but i'm stuck at one part.
The person said to "hold on command" and select the layer. But i'm using Windows and not Mac. So what exactly is command? I've tried ctrl ,alt, tab, etc. but none of them come out right.
The part i'm talking about is on 12:11 onwards in this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bbzjgcwmW1E
help pls. Thanks :)

CMD on a Mac is the equivalent of CTRL on PC/Windows.
You have to click and hold ctrl and while holding the ctrl button down click on the mask thumbnail (per the video) in the layers panel to get the selection. This works for any thumbnail found in the layers panel (mask, vector, raster thumbs, etc...).
Select what you'd like the inverse with the magic want or selection too, then go to the select menu. There should be an option that says "Inverse" click that, and you'll get the inverse of your selection. Now just hit the delete or backspace key :)
