K well I have a pretty good computer (3.0 ghz proc, 1 gig ram etc) and I had a 9800 pro. I was recently getting frame loss in games even UT2004 with everything on low. So i figured it was a video card problem and spent $100 on a new card(x1600 pro) and I still get frame loss even after formatting and installing the newest drivers etc. So what could be the problem?? This is really frustrating
Update:Ok well it's obviously not a video card problem i have the same problem with this new video card even after formatting

First off I have never heard of 9800 pro! You mean windows 98? It could be a number of things! You may have too much crap running in the background, you may have direct x issues, try shuttin some crap down, try reducing your direcx sound acceleration, video acceleration.
The ATI 9800 PRO is a good Graphics Adapter card. Though you have not mentioned the memory capacity of this Card. It maybe possible that you need a Card with more memory or more processing power. Maybe the Card is running hot thereby getting Frame lose.
It maybe also possible that even the new Card that you got runs hotter thereby having Frame lose. Try to get the Card more ventilation and if there is a possibility get a faster powerful Fan to keep the Card Cool . This way it may run better with less frame loss.
Good Luck
ok first off the other 2 guys dont understand what a 9800 is so for their sake its a video card. second it could be a number of problems.what the card speed is set at your system speed as far as memory if you could give a little more info it may help to get a answer.
have you try to download the UT2004 patches? It could be the game that needs to be patched. Those patches can be downloaded from Unreal Tournament website.
Some problems could be from dust in the case. Try cleaning it out.
