I'm planning on getting an imac sometime soon and I'm going to upgrade some of the specs.
(I need it to be fast so I can edit with final cut with no delay)
I'm getting the imac 21.5 inch.
And I was told that I could only upgrade either the memory(RAM) or the Processor speed.
So my choices are :
iMac 21.5 inch 2.7GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 with 8GB of RAM
or
iMac 21.5 inch 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 with 4GB of RAM
I know that both processor speed, and RAM helps with computer performance.
But I don't know which to upgrade.
Which one has better, faster performance?
Thanks.

Both really are not very different and either way you should be fine. Generally anything over 4GB of RAM is going to be more than you need. Once you hit 4GB of RAM it is best to upgrade your Processor but the only difference you will ever notice in those two processors (i am guessing those are the i5-750 and the i7-860) is going to be very minute. The only real difference is if you end up wanting to overclock them in which case the i7 will overclock to well passed 3.2GHz and be a better upgrade.
4GB of RAM isn't a bottleneck, so go with the faster processor (i7).
The Core i7's Hyperthreading will no doubt benefit you in FinalCut.
I think the second configuration has better performance - and if you need more memory, you can upgrade it.
