I'm getting a new PS3 soon with more memory. I know that when you connect to PSN, it stores the trophy data upon synching. My question is, is there anything I need to do to make sure it keeps track of my purchases from the PSN store? That way I can re-download content to my new system, of course.

When you go to the play station store, there will be four icons on the right corner( search,???, downloads, Cart)
If you click on downloads you will see your purchased items.
No, they do no longer seem to be long gone. in case you visit PSN on your PS3, and sign up, there must be an option on the show titled "acquire history". Your PS3 trophies are correct to your individual profile, and consequently are no longer regularly existant after reformatting. i decide to advise backing up your profile to a storage gadget till now reformatting.
sign in as normal ie original user name and password, go to the store click on history and voila all your downloads are there. All info is stored in a database.
actually if you want to transfer data from one PS3 to another you just have to connect them both directly by using an Ethernet cable.
