Tim computed the average of 6 numbers & got 56. Later, she realized one of the numbers should've been a 34 and not 46. What's the correct average of all numbers?
a) 44
b) 50
c) 56
I think it should be D: 54.
Say she had the numbers 46, 56, 56, 56, 56, 66, which would be 56 on average. Replace the 46 by a 34, and you get: 54 on average.
Or: every number has a weight of 1/6. If you subtract 12 from one of them, you'll lower the average by 1/6 * 12 = 2
i think it's 44 but i'm not sure.
