I had this encounter/nightmare (?) about two years ago. But unlike most nightmares, I can remember this one vividly.
I was asleep and lying in bed. I think I had cracked my eyes open to see whether it was bright out yet. It was maybe about 4, 5 or 6 in the morning. I then felt something jumping on my bed and could actually feel my weight shifting as it jumped. I couldn't see it as it was invisible. This thing than jumped on top of me face down. Whatever it was, it couldn't have been large because it wasn't crushing my whole body, but I could definitely feel its weight. Its face was very close to mine, (maybe an inch) and I could feel its breath on my mouth and nose. This scared the hell out of me, and I tried to move but was completely paralyzed. I couldn't even yell out for help. This lasted for about 5 seconds. Than suddenly, the paralysis lifted and the thing on top of me was gone.
This event seems to coincide with the symptoms of sleep paralysis. But, is it REALLY a disorder or something........else? Can someone give me a NON-medical explanation for what happened? Before I come to a definitive conclusion, I want to consider the supernatural explanation...
Update:Just so you know...I NEVER have nightmares. Especially not ones like this. I havn't had another one (that I can remeber) since this event. Maybe I'm just making much to do of nothing........But this nightmare ( or whatever it was) has always been at the back of my head, nagging me. I just want some closure.

Sleep paralysis is a common sleep condition that has put fear in the hearts of so many who have experienced it. It is a period of time when you are in a tranquil state of dreaming, but your eyes are open and your body cannot move a single muscle.
well what ever you do do not act to this encounter it will only make it more active. some times when ive woken ive seen things like familier looking people. what i think it is proberly a dream or thought in your head coming to life because you have paid so much attention to it. so if i was in your situation i would try and keep calm and ignore it as much as possable.
I may be wrong and if I am then it is sleep paralysis.
I get the feeling it was a dog you once owned and it found a way to let you know they were alright and on the other side.
it is not supernatural
When we are asleep, our brain releases a chemical to paralyze us so that we don't flop around when we are dreaming in the REM stage, (to stop from hurting ourselves).
This is what you experienced
