It's a bit unclear to me as well...I think that it is mostly about embryonic but it's also about adult ones because of the possibility of them going too far with their right to practice research at all and that maybe they'll start doing abortions to get them from embryos to help an 80-year-old live another month.
Embryonic stem cells.
I'm not entirely clear what the debate is about, though. I know scientists want to use embryonic stem cells (since they haven't been programmed yet), and program them to become certain tissues so that they can regrow deficient parts of a person, but what exactly is it about the embryonic stem cells that causes a controversy?
The prolifers are all up in arms saying taking embryonic stem cells will make people abort more babies... which is bull.
They've found in the limited research they've been able to do that adult stem cells are pretty much useless.
Research is being held up by the religious right, plain and simple.
Whatever happened to separation of church and state? Those religious freaks should have NO SAY in what research is done, no matter what.
I say ban ALL religion.
The controversy Is about whether or not it's humane or safe to use baby fetuses, and other sources of stem cells to cure muscle degenerate/ Alzheimer diseases with them. This also ties in with the abortion disagreement, because fetuses can be used for stem cell research. There are some websites souly for giving information on why/why not to support stem cell research.
Adult stem cells o.k., embryonic ones controversial because they are derived from aborted fetuses.
