Ive got my eye on a 2003 toyota tacoma xtra cab prerunner ( 4cyl automatic) and a 2004 chevrolet colorado crew cab z71 (5cyl automatic.
I like them both but for my size (6ft2) i feel the colorado would be more beneficial but its 2 grand more than the tacoma.
My question is... Any truck experts out there.. Which would you choose? Both come with tons of optional features and both are below the average mileage

I looked at all small trucks last year wanting a four cylinder for gas mileage. I chose the gmc canyon twin of Colorado. The Toyota automatic with the four cylinder was painfully slow and the gmc is quite torquey for a four. I get 18 - 24 mpg. The 5 cylinder has more power but no better fuel mileage than the six cylinder Tacoma. Also I've heard that year Chevy had problems with the five cylinder head. I would look for a four or eight cylinder Chevy or the v6 Toyota unless you get the toy with a four and manual transmission
Colorado Prerunner
Chevy Colorado Prerunner
What do you want the truck for? Do you plan on hauling heavy items, I think the Tacoma cannot be beat as far as reliability. Normal maintenance and they run well over 200.000 miles.
But, the 4 cylinder is not an engine you buy if you plan on hauling heavy things.
For me, I would go to Edmunds.com and look for your specific vehicle and see what consumers have been saying about it Reviews from others who have nothing to gain, are very beneficial. I do it all the time. and have averaged well over 150.000 miles on each of my vehicles. Good luck and have fun
I have a 2000 v6 toy which has plenty of power but i have driven the 4 cylinder 2002 toy and it is underpowered as a prerunner...on my v6 just a timin belt o2 sensor and water pump and regular fluid and filter changes got me to 180000 miles so far
I prefer Toyota
The Tacoma will last longer.
lol i agree with you about the ford ranger part. if i were you i'd go with the Colorado. it's definately a nice truck and powerful at that. plus you don't have to worry about importing parts to fix it in case anything goes wrong
