I call it the AFI virus because theyre the first ones that I know of to start off on one genre of music and turn emo. huh?
AFI (punk band)
30 Seconds To Mars (sounded like Orgy/Deadsy)
Underoath (death metal)
Aiden (sounded like old school AFI)
Powerman 5000 (nu-metal)
Boys Night Out (hardcore)
Fear Before The March Of Flames (hardcore)
Wes Borland guitarist for Limp Bizkit (only good member) now plays bass for From First To Last
Do some bands really need the fanbase of 15 and 16 year old girls that bad?

Well. most record companies realize that emo is a current trend and are pushing the bands they have in that direction.
Underoath, though, is another story. After they lost Corey Steger, they were definitely a LOT softer.... And basically after Steger was gone pretty much only Dallas Taylor was holding onto the original sound... so with him now out of the picture it made their progression (or degression, whichever way you look at it) a lot easier... I was pretty impressed with the comeback they made with Define the Great Line, though. They're Only Chasing Safety was a freaking disaster.
Wot are you on about. Emo or wotever it is labelled at the current time is the new "rock". if you were a person that enjoyed music through its transitions then you would see that. Society needs clashes of good and bad (eg good versus evil) so go with the flow. it will change to a different sound soon and have a different label also but while its here Rock On!
Emo is the thing to do now. Your question is like asking why was ridiculous hair and spandex popular in the 80s. the emo phase will pass and everyone will laugh at it.
AFI virus? Lol, sounds kinda real if you had no idea who AFI was.
I dunno, some bands aren't like trying to be in the emo music category, but in other bands, you can tell that they're trying too hard to be that popular with the crowd.
I think a more important question is:
Why do emo bands wear girls clothing?
