I watched a part of Ponyo in Japanese with English subtitles. Instead of calling his mother "mom", Sosuke calls her by her first name, "Lisa". Why does he do this?
Atualizada:I'm sure it's his mom. In the English version, he calls her mom throughout the entire movie.

Presumably LIsa and Kōichi are to be imagined to have taught their son to call them “LIsa” and “Kōichi” rather than “father” and “mother”. This is as unusual in Japan as it is in the western English-speaking world.
But it also happens on occasion in the English-speaking world.
Presumably this was done in part to establish that Lisa and Kōichi are very independent people, somewhat unconventional, not altogether bound by their inherited culture.
And yes, you are quite right: Lisa is Sōsuke’s mother, not a sister or aunt. Sōsuke was born to her and nursed by her. It is made quite clear that Kōichi is Lisa’s husband and Sōsuke’s father, especially in the scene where Sōsuke converses with Kōichi by a light signaller.
