I have and iPod Touch 4G and a Dell Studio laptop running Windows 7. Every time I try to update my iPod, it goes as normal; downloading the update, backing up my iPod, preparing the iPod by putting it into recovery mode... this is where the problems start happening. The computer starts searching for the Apple Mobile Device (Recovery Mode) driver, but doesn't find it. Then iTunes tells me that the iPod cannot be restored and it gets stuck in recovery mode. When this happened once before, I plugged the iPod into my Dad's computer and restored from there (annoyingly loosing all of my >Atualizada:
Also, the device is not showing up in my iTunes at all, not even as a new device or one in recovery mode.

I had the same problem this morning.
The link here from Apple gave me 1/2 the answer. I had to reinstall the drivers as directed here.

I "updated" the drivers for the USB Composite device, and then updated the drivers for the Apple Mobile Device, my iTouch 4g was seen by iTunes, and things started working again.
You might have to try different driver combinations, but all the drivers you need are in the usbaapl file in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
Basically to sum it up, you need to update the drivers for all of the broken devices, even though it looks in Device Manager that only the Apple Mobile Device is the one that needs it.
