I recently got an Xbox 360 (It's the Halo Reach Limited Edition). It came with a code for some Spartan Recon Helmet for the game. It gives me these directions:
To redeem your token for the spartan recon helmet:
First you'll need a free Xbox LIVE membership.
If you already have one, go to step d.
a. Connect Xbox 360 to a broadband internet connection
b. In the dashboard, select My Xbox, Sign-In, Create Profile
and then follow the on-screen instructions to create a new account.
c. Select your profile in My Xbox, Sign-In, Create Profile
and then follow the on-screen instructions to create your free account.
d. Press the Xbox Guide button on your controller.
e. Navigate to the Marketplace tab.
f. Select Redeem Code
g. Enter your code and enjoy!

How can I tell if my Xbox has a broadband internet connection?
But my main question is this:
I already created a free Xbox LIVE account on the xbox website. So after that I went on my Xbox and pressed the Xbox Guide button, went to Marketplace, and selected Redeem code.
After pressing it, I expected some code entry screen, but no, instead, it prompts me to create an xbox LIVE account.
This is where Im stuck, I already have an account, so how do I redeem the code now? I dont want to create a second account..
I tried everything I could and Im completely stumped. Im quite new to this stuff, so some help would be greatly appreciated!

Acceptable broadband for Live is DSL or cable with at least 1mbps download and 200 kbps upload. If you already made an account on the website, you need to use the recover gamertag function. The gamertag is on xbox.com, not on your 360 yet. If you already have an offline profile that you've been playing on, you need to turn it into a gamertag. Saves, achievements and some downloaded content are locked to profiles. If you were to recover the one on the site and then use your code to get the armor, it may only be usable on that profile. A better way would be to scrap the one you made on the website and sign into your offline profile on your 360. Click on the 'join Xbox Live' option and then go through the set up to turn it into a gamertag. Make sure you use a new, real email address for this one. Once you've been through that, use the redeem a code option and put it in.

alright, heres what you do... if you got the new xbox slim thing... (which i think thats what the limited edition is) connect to the internet through the wireless... if you cant figure that out, then I'm ASSUMING you can still plug it in via ethernet cord... do that...
then heres where the hard part is... this might get rid of all your game saves and stuff, well they will be there, just on your old profile... you need to go to make a new profile, and then go to "Recover Gamertag"... then you put in your hotmail account and password... then you will be connected to xbox LIVE... then go to the enter code
and hey wtf, why am I "random teen"... MY NAMES SEAN! stupid yahoo...
On your xbox you need to sign in and be online. You can't redeem a code if your not signed in on xbox live
