1992 Honda Civic Problems Speedo + Odo + Rev Problems?
For some odd reason my speedo stopped working along with the Odometer but occasionally jumps. The weird thing is that it only jumps when the rev problem appears. This happens when im driving on the freeway around 90-100kph and is about 3000 rpm. The revs don't jump much but u can feel it. this makes the speedo jump from 0 to around 100kph. so weird! Ive taken the VSS out and cleaned that... no joy! a mechanic told me to clean my carbys to fix the rev problem but have no idea how to! Help me out plz!
The car is a 1992 Honda Civic DX.. I believe.

Update:i disconnected the wiring and electrical unit that slides onto the vss. is that what you mean by the rubber boot? if not can you explain in detail where it is located?

Sounds like speedo cable has become disconnected at trans. remove rubber boot and check if cable is in slot on top of gear, there is a little spring clip that holds it in, if cable can be pulled out without removing clip need to reinstall cable into slot. Carbs had problems with bad floats. There is an air/fuel mixture screw at rear of carb. may need mirror to see. Also check vac. lines to air filter and to vac control box on firewall.
