I have a Mazda cx-7 turbocharged with 50 k miles on it. it should be getting 18-19 mpg but I'm getting about 15-16 mpg. also if I'm completely stopped and I push on the gas pedal the car barely reacts or accelerates untill it hits about 3000 rpms. I'm wandering what it could be and I think the two problems might be related. Any ideas?

There is this thing called turbo lag! This is the amount of time it takes for the turbo charger to start producing results you can feel in the seat of your pants. So until an engine produces enough exhaust volume the boost will be low. Another factor is the volume of the intake runner between the turbo and the throttle body.
Now maybe a tune up will help. But keep in mind the more often you run at boost- the lower your mileage per gallon. So if you stay under 3000 rpms you will get better mileage.
So stay away from the boost if you want better mileage and accept that the engine does not see boost below 3000 rpms. More then likely at freeway speeds in fifth gear or better the engine is under 3K and you don't drive in that range very often. You want the boost and when you have boost it sucks gasoline.

Google Mazda Technical Service Bulletins for Cx7. That will take the guess work out. Then take it from there. I would think it is better to do a little investigation at home before spending money on a tune up or getting the run around of a tech not knowing because they can't duplicate the problem. Now my be the time to get out of it. The Cx7 has a troubled mechanical history around the turbocharger unit.
