An auto shop is charging me $450 to replace the 2 O2 sensors. They said the sensors are $135 each plus the labor they took to read the codes and diagnose the problem. They thought it was the catylitic ocnverter but i just had it changed and after a while they found the O2 sensors werent working. $450 sounds pretty steeeeeeep. what do you think?

First off, if your thinking of doing this yourself, you have to know which O2 sensors are bad, You say there are two that is bad, and they thought to start with that the converter was bad, so I can only assume that one of them is post catalyst, and the other is the upstream. While on the four cylinders, they have only two, but the six cylinders have three or four. You need to know which ones are bad from the codes they found. They are not that hard to change yourself, just need to know exactly which ones you need to replace. 450.00 to me is to high. But never ever buy your own parts and have them installed somewhere else. As long as they furnish the parts they have to make them good labor and all, as if you take your own parts and have them installed, You will have to pay again if the part fails.
I think its very reasonable, I tryed replacing mine myself (2004 Mustang GT) and after an hour getting covered in stone and oil and a few busted knuckles i gave up and payed pep boys to do it.
Also if you plan on keeping this truck for a long time, ask the auto shop to put "anti-seize" on the threads to the new O2's, this will ensure an easy fix next time they need to be removed (if they went bad or you bought a new exhaust system)
Look please go to NAPA auto parts and purchase both O2 sensors. Steeep! yes and yes again. When you go on line to look up the sensors and get pictures of them also get the instructions to replace them. Do it right and get an "ego" boost and a lesson well learned. These things aren't hard at all to replace. Lots of luck!
$250 on parts + tax it is about $265, two hour labor for two O2 sensor is the standard at $100 the hour, you may find it cheaper if you look around, is it worth?
