Update:Everybody is saying the Northern Terriottories don't have water but the average annnual rainfalll is 68 inches. That seem like a ton...

Another election breaking promise from the LNP government
The LNP policy before the last election was to make a special economic zone in NT and Northern qld and wa to encourage growth in northern Australia
Add that to the endless list of broken promises
The weather is very hot all year round.
Not big in population. Therefore limited shops.
The dirt is dry and dusty.
Sometimes there might be flash floods. But that is like less then one day a year.
The north and west is mainly used for mining. Otherwise it is hard to get a job.
We do not use inches.
People need water. A city of a million people needs at least ten million litres of water a day just for the needs of the people. Agriculture and industry need water as well. There is not enough water in Australia to provide for large cities inland.
Much of Australia's interior is desert.
Central Australia has no water, and the North has extremely thin poor soils.
There have been numerous schemes for Northern settlement. They were not very successful.
Because there is only sand to drink
No water, no KFC ,no Maccas, no hope !
