Is the sport package much better than just premium is it still as smooth and is maintenance more on a sports package?
Looking to buy a 99-01 BMW e46 3 series and wasn't sure to go with a premium package or one with sports
I want the ride to be smooth

The sport also comes with redesigned bumpers front and rear, along with side skirts.
The ride is more firm than the non sport variants.
The sport also tends to hold its value more.
Good luck

E46 Sport Package
The premium package adds comforts such as auto dimming mirrors, genuine leather, pwr seats etc. The sports package gives you sport suspension, bigger wheels, sport steering wheel, bolstered seats etc.
The smoothest would be either base or premium with no sports package. When you add the sport package you get lower profile tires and a stiffer suspension, therefore a little harder ride. Don't let that shy you away from the sport package though, it's still smooth, you just get more road feel.

I've got a 330ci (so rear wheel drive as opposed to the all wheel drive xi's) and it's a great car! Gets looks wherever I drive and always puts a smile on my face. The comfort is great. I drove 1600 miles in it over the space of a week and I was as happy for the first journey as I was the last. On the motorway/freeway they are great cars too. Lots of power and a nice quiet cabin. I am a bit of a BMW head though and would always recommend BMW's over Mercs. If possible, try and get a 24 hour test drive of each. I'm not sure if that is common in the states (I'm guessing you're American as they only made the xi's over there), but in the UK if the car salesman smells a sale, he'll be more than happy to give you a 24hr test drive.
I have an '01 330i with the sport package and it's ridiculously smooth.
Don't know much about the premium package though..
Simply put - if you want a BM and economy buy a diesel. While I don't like BMs the return I get from such a heavy car (320D) is remarkable. Check out Audi, the BM is a beast in bad weather and deadly on ice partially due to rear wheel drive. Good for Europe but not UK where the roads are not so suitable and last winter were snow & ice bound.
sports package all the way.
ur goodlookin if dats u on da pic;)
