I bought a 1995 tracker. Lower milage. 8 days later I took it to a mechanic that works with the dealer I bought it from. Two weeks later the mechanic made the choice that for sure it's a head gasket problem. The head was sent out cleaned ect. The water pump and timming belt were also replaced. After a couple days I noticed the heat wasn't blowing hot. I checked the coolant. sure enough it was low. Now the mechanic is saying it could be a cracked head or oil coolant sensor. Is this guy taking me for a ride? I have exhuasted all my funds. Sense he was possitive it was the head gasket, isn;t he responsable for fixing whatever the problem is now? What can I do? there is no warrenty from the dealer either. I have 0 money and desperatly need a reliable car.

it don,t have to be the head gasket ! the antifreeze could be leaking from a hose or the heater core could be leaking on the floor ! do you have any antifreeze in the oil ? does it blow white smoke out the tailpipe ? if none of this stuff is happening then it,s safe to say it,s not the head gasket !
I have a 1992 Sidekick similar to your Tracker. I assume you took it in because it was low on coolant. But I do agree with you that the dealer should be responsible since the mechanic did misdiagnose it and it still has a coolant leak somewhere. Either way you do need to find out where the coolant went. Is your exhaust a grey color and more smokier than usual? Check the engine oil for a milk shake type consistency, if there is milky oil. Than oil is getting into the coolant somehow. If it was me I would leave that thing at the dealer until they fixed it. If not call your local news station for their consumer advocate for some help. Good luck
something does not make sense how could the head be cracked if it was sent out and rebuilt? they check foru cracks when rebuilding and in any case they ******** should have given a 90 day warranty on his wrk? find out if your state has an automotive beureu by calling the attorney general and making a complaint about a greedy mechanic. Unfortunately geo tracker is not a good car new and you need to do a lot more research in the future so you do not buy someone elses problem.
I understand about the funds but this mechanic seems to be pretty lame if you ask me. turn him into the better business beaure along with that crappy car dealer.
It sucks but it happens a lot sadly I suggest in the future that you stick with a toyota a nissan a subaru or a mazda Honda has some good cars too. Most of the rest of the crap out there is not worth buying you can also go to websites like www.arfc.org that keep track of consumer complaints and carcomplaints.com is another one that has a lot of feedback from car owners as well.
