i JUST recently bought a amd athlon 3500+ to replace my amd sempron 3200+, i added thermal paste and all that jazz but when i turn it on the cpu fan goes fast and no video is shown i have a 250W power supply, idk if thats the problem or the amd athlon isnt compatiable with my motherboard please help! oh and there both socket 939. i switched back to my sempron and everything works perfectly
Update:its made from HP and since its a amd chip i thought it would fit in this one

Definately a compatibility issue.
if you have a prebuilt computer than most of the time the bois will have very limited ability's. Most of the time computer manufacturers will only program the bios to handle one type of CPU. If the computer works with your old CPU but not your new one than it means that your CPU is bad or the bios on your mother board does not recognize the CPU and will not boot.
