I'm in high school and just last year I became interested in the computer field. Everybody else in the tech club I'm in knows so much compared to what I know. They self taught themselves for since at least 4 years ago. Will I need that kind of knowledge might to be successful in the computer field and/or software engineering/game programmer? How much will I need to self teach myself about the field after computer science degree, to the extent that they did?

I'm taking Computer Info & Tech in college, second year. I was surprised at the number of people in my class who had no experience beyond what a normal user has and how well they have done. So, I wouldn't sweat not knowing as much as they do.
If you are a hard studier then NO you wont need that kind of knowledge, if you are good with common sense NO you wont need that kind of knowledge, because programming is using logical steps to solve a problem, obviosuly you need to understand the language of coding depending on what field you want to go to, you can self teach but if you were into that Im assuming you would have already started, best bet is to learn from someone rather then a book, because a book cant ask the exact questions you want when you need them!
