CQ50Z series?
What about this laptop compared to the Inspiron 1525? Its a little cheaper with the instant rebate and seems quite nice buts whats the difference if any one knows. THey look alike except its sad it doesnt come in as many colors. Does is come in any other colors? For each computer I'm looking at the most basic version of each series.

just for a heads up. your Compaq link does not work.
I would go with the dell. but make sure you customize it first. the stock settings aren't the best.
your going to want to upgrade the processor to an intel core two duo.
upgrade the ram to at least 2gb.
personally i would upgrade the screen resolution. its only 50 bucks and well worth it. if not, it wont effect the performance, only quality of what you are looking at.
It comes with 80gb hard drive, for some people that is enough. i would personally go with 120.
depending on if you want to be able to burn home movies to dvd's you might want to look into upgrading to a cd/dvd rw
with the following upgrades your looking at 754 without shipping and taxes.
its a good price for what your getting, if you don't want to do all the upgrades, vista might run slow and lag quite a bit.
if your only looking to do a select few upgrades, make sure you do at least 2gb of ram.
second highest priority would be the processor.
