Do dogs feel massages?
Sometimes when im outside with my dog and she's tried out from chasing things [sticks, balls, etc] she lays down belly up by my feet.
I sit next to her & massage the pads on her paws. She'll lay through it, but does it feel good to them?
Or is she just laying down tired. Im thinking she really does enjoy it because she'll lay there & fall asleep.
Update:No need for a Vet. She is a very healthy 2 1-/2 yr old German Shep.
I do also massage her neck when i pet her, but even my fiance thinks it's weird for a dog to enjoy a "foot massage"

If she lays there & lets you, it must feel pleasureable to her. Most dogs will take their paws away when you play with them too much.
But it sounds to me like she really enjoys you giving her a loving massage :)
Massage is good for all creatures. It has been proven that dogs feel the same pain we feel, they are just instinctively not showing it or else in the wild they would get attacked from pack mates.
I would take her to a vet though and have her evaluated for arthritis. If not arthritis she needs to get on an exercise program if she can't keep up for very long playing.

Yes, dogs do feel and enjoy massages. If I have a particularly difficult dog on my grooming table, I'll put down my scissors for ten minutes or so and massage the dog and talk calmly and reassuringly to it, and I definitely see a difference in demeanor afterwards.
There is a whole massage therapy just for dogs, it relaxes fearful dogs, helps them to trust people.
There is also massage for dogs with back problems, there are professionals who specialize in this.
Dogs certainly do like to be massaged, same as people. I don't know about paws, my dogs love their backs massaged, but if your dog lays there through it, she must like it.
My Doxies are 9 lbs and 13lbs, so I dont technically massage them However, my wife frequently pet, stroke and scratch them. It never occurred to me to really give my dogs a GOOD scratching until about 4 months ago (why i dont know when its SO cliche' to scratch a dogs head or behind the ears) and I tell you, it made them even sweeter toward me (if thats possible, they are ANGELS!)
Thee ia a book out on T-Touch. It is a form of massage. It tells you different ways to massage your dog or cat, etc. I've used it on my dogs. They love a good massage.
Yes, they enjoy it just as they enjoy a nice petting. Massage therapy can help pets in many ways, especially older ones.

I think they like it. Animals seem to be more sensitive then people to certain things. I bet they can feel not only the physical sensation but the emotional intent to make them feel good. Keep up the good work.
Yes, they have deep nerves like we do and they feel it. Just the same as if you got a foot massage.
