I am wondering because my midwife told me that she will wait till I am almost 2 weeks overdue before thinking about inducing me. I do not want to get that far overdue, I am in a lot of pain and have been dealing with horrible cramps for weeks know and they are getting worse by the day. I can hardly walk anymore and even rolling over in bed hurts!! I know I am complaining a lot and should wait till bub is ready, but the pain is really starting to stress me out and is becoming impossible to deal with. Can I ask to be induced sooner than 42 weeks if need be? my midwife tole me she hardly ever induces woman, and likes to let nature do its thing. I can not imagine staying pregnant until 42 weeks. Thanks!! I am 38weeks Thursday!!

It is a policy within the Australian Public Health care system to not induce unless there is dire medical need, prior to 42 weeks.
I mentioned that Public system, because obviously they are aware that induction can often lead to intervention, and that is some hardcore cashola, far too much on the Health Care system. Since you pretty much don't have to pay for anything under the public system, to deliver in a public hospital, etc, so if everyone who wanted to be induced was, and about 50% of those were to lead to a c-section, it would end up costing the country millions, so it's a pretty preventable cost when you think about it.
So it's cheaper, and safer, to avoid induction (only if there is no medical concern obviously).
My midwife here in VIC had a great old chat to me about some of the horrible excuses people have made up to get induced, this included "I'm tired", "I've got a concert to attend" "I want my figure back" even right down to someone bringing in pads with FAKE blood /food colouring, claiming they were spotting, so they needed to be induced right away.
But here, it is 42 weeks minimum, unless it really has to be done.
One of the doctors I saw was happy to let me go to term where as the other wanted me induced early. Ham was born at 39+1, so guess who won. lol
I don't believe however that they will do it if you are just uncomfortable :( Although I wish they would, I am sure a lot of women would have their bubs early if they did allow induction due to discomfort.
I had gestational diabetes, and my blood pressure went up, that is why I went early.
If you are not having any problems besides being uncomfortable ( which is a big problem, but not reason for an induction :( ) I would be guessing you will have to wait until little miss is ready to come out :(
Ohhh, I hope she comes soon! Those Braxton Hicks are the worst!

Labour pains in induced labour are more intense and painful, so midwifes do tend to let nature do its thing, I am pretty sure its common practice unless the baby is distressed or your waters break but you have no contraction, etc then they have to induce. Chances are you wont be that late anyway try to relax....I know how you are feeling though, I am only 24 weeks and I am in pain too!!
