We're making a traditional yule log to be burned. It will be decorated with various seasonal berries and plants, including mistletoe and other flora which might be toxic when ingested. Of course, no ingestion is planned; but is it safe to burn these things with the log? Will mistletoe berries create toxic fumes? Should any harmful items be removed and discarded prior to the burning?

It would produce toxic smoke. I assume that it would go up a fire place vent. It isn't going to hurt anything in that case unless you are sensitive to it. I had a friend who almost died from an allergic reaction to cedar so there is a small risk. I don't think it is worth worrying about unless you are exposed to the smoke. I have heard of people that died from burning poison ivy outside and breathing in the fumes. It closed up their lungs. That sort of irritation is probably more dangerous.
