My prenatals keep making me sick and making me have cramps. Since this is my first baby Im not sure if I can just stop taking them. Ive tried to take them with food, with milk, with anything to drink. I called my doctor and the nurse told me to try and take them before bed. I tried that and it seems like when I lay down after taking them it makes the cramps worse. I have a doctors appointment on monday so I figured I'd wait and ask him if theres something I can do to stop this from happening. Has anyone had this happen, if so, what do I do??
Thanks in advance!
11 weeks along.

ooh I was 7wks along when I found out I was pregnant and 11wks along when I finally got seen by the doctor. She gave me some prenatal vitamins.. O.M.G! (TMI AHEAD) It gave me serious cramping, I was going to the bathroom like every 2 hours and the worst case of FOUL gas anyone could ever have LOL. My husband even said - You know, you are so sweet, but you have something horrible brewing in your butt. Rofl. Anyways, I say switch your prenatal vitamins. No it won't hurt your baby if you stop taking those until you get something different and less painful for you :)
Prenatal Vitamins Cause Gas
Hi there,
If you prenatals are doing that to you than you need to try another brand. If it still makes you sick there may be a certain vitamin that you don't agree with. Try just taking foilc acid if thats the case and if the dr says your irons low you may need to take an iron supplement too. But try and make up for it by eating lots of healthy nutritious foods. Because i have to take my supplements during my whole pregnancy and i had the same thing happen to me as it did to you, as soon as i switched brands- not a problem. But i do take mine of a night time.
The OTC ones are only as stable because of the fact the prescribed ones. The OTC ones have each and all of the supplementations which you and toddler desire. The prescribed ones often have somewhat greater supplementations in them. So the two way your stable. i'm getting the single an afternoon prenatal supplementations, $13 for a month grant. Break the pill in half and take them at different times of the day like 3 or more hours apart. its the iron that is making you sick. Don't know about the cramps though. that's probably just because of pregnancy. You can also take prenatal gummies. I do. And i have to take 3 iron pills because i am anemic and i break them in half and take them at different times during the day and i don't get sick anymore. GL!
Any vitamins make me ill at first. I found it easy to just cut the pill in half. Take half of the pill the first day and see if you get sick. If you do not then take half of the pill in the morning and half of the pill at night. If this does not make you ill continue to do this for at least a month. By the end of the month you will be able to take the one pill once a day without any problems. I hope that helps.
I had this exact problem with my first, so I switched over to Flinstones Vitamins (the gummie ones are my favourite), I had a tho double whammy though, I couldn't swallow them properly either.
This is my second pregnancy and I now just take the flinstone along with the folic acid and the Dr says its just fine!
Oh I should add, they didnt make me cramp, the materna vitamins just made me feels really really ill
always take them later in the evening it will help after a meal. you should change or when you go to the doctor have them prescribe you some, i take nature made prenatal and havent had a problem, but also your body is different
Mine made me sick to my stomach so I switched to gummy vitamins and that seemed to help. The cramping could be due to your uterus growing. I've never heard of prenatal vitamins to cause cramping.
Try a differant brand.
