A very good question.

As a vounerable female living in a very rough area I have often been tempted to carry a knife, but never have. I do however keep a very large set of keys in my pocket, which aren't ideal, but could help in a potential rape/attack. I also have a personal alarm (for all the good that is).
When I'm not at school, yeah I carry around a Swiss army knife (so it's more than just protection), but I too would risk prosecution if I were caught with it for possession of a concealed weapon. Personally I find it stupid. But yes, as time has gone forward certain liberals and conservatives have pushed to have certain things outlawed/changed because someone might get hurt. Then again I guess they have never gotten jumped before.
some human beings carry knives for malicious purpose. maximum, which includes myself, carry a knife for some, criminal motives- application (which includes beginning bins, reducing string, camping out journeys, and so on), self protection, and interest requirement (regulation officers and such.) i could fairly human beings carry knives than weapons, so i'm fascinated with it. there are a number of rules approximately knives, yet none interior the U. S. that are straight away against (different than in faculties and places the place there are particular, business enterprise made bans) the donning of a knife. maximum states have a decrease on the dimensions of the knife, and the type you're allowed to hold it (which includes the place interior the vehicle it is, the place on your guy or woman, and so on.). additionally, some knives are outright ban, like genuine switchblades. Knife correct injuries are probable to be maximum trouble-free interior the kitchen and artwork place. while you're conversing approximately man or woman to man or woman, intentional injuries, inner cities probable have a extreme value.
I always carry a Leatherman Tool (Which does have a knife in it) -- because it is so handy -- and I am always fixing something (I am someone who not only maintains my own home, but I also do my own yardwork -- so that tool comes in handy when I am doing Trellises, and other things).
Yes, it is SAD that there are so many out in society nowadays who would rather knife, shoot, kill/murder or harm/maim/etc -- and don't care at all (place no value on HUMANITY -- and have no emotions or conscience). I wish things would change -- and that people would return to learning manners/conscience at the place we used to (which is in the home) .. but ... sadly, too many are NOT given that opportunity for a good lesson at all.
Sure I do, it's one of those Swiss Army multi-purpose compact thingies together with scissors, tweezers, toothpick, nail file and something else. I've never used the knife, I'm too scared to flick it up because it's very sharp.
A tiny Swiss army knife on a key ring. I believe it's legal.
the only knife i carry with me is the one on the wine key carry with me. Never know when I am going to need to open a bottle of wine.
i will carry a utility tool that includes a pair of plyers, scissors and a saw etc but not a dedicated knife.
