My favorite driver of all time is Dale Earnhardt Sr., and yet I would like to think I don't tolerate dirty drivers. This isn't a loaded question, and I'm not trying to be a troll. I just wonder if other people have the same views of their driver, the way I do mine.

I don't necessarily think that Dale Earnhardt was a dirty driver. He just did whatever it took to win the race and wish that there were more drivers today willing to do that.I don't mean blatantly wrecking someone, but "rattling their cage" like Sr. did.
Either way,I respect your opinion and understand where you are coming from.Have a Merry Christmas :)
There are more than 3 ways to describe anything or anyone or any situation. There will be those that don't like him that would label him as a dirty driver. There would be those who like him that would call him an aggressive driver. There are those who may describe him as a driver that did what it takes to win regardless of what any set of fans thought or said or how they labeled him. Depends on who it is coming from and what kind of idea they are trying to make other people have about Dale Sr. Regardless of their intent with choice of words ... Any driver that has a fast car can afford to be aggressive. Why? Because when they move someone out of the way they can go ahead and drive off without fear of retaliation from the driver they bumped. So bottom line is anyone with a fast car would probably drive the same way because they are on top of the world and can afford to be that way. As long as their driver is fast then it will be okay yet the moment it happens to their driver then they will label the other driver a "dirty driver". Don't worry about that use of the term (dirty driver). To me a dirty driver is someone that knows they can not win a race unless they wreck someone who is faster. There has been several times where Dale Jr was taken out in the restrictor plate races because they knew Dale Jr was and always will be a threat at restrictor plate tracks. Those are the dirty drivers.
I wouldnt say that Dale Earnhardt Sr was a dirty driver, he was more a determined driver. And if someone got in his way he would give them a little nudge so that he could obtain the spot he wanted. He was the bump 'n' run driver, no harm done to the car no problem.
But I dont have that view of either of my drivers, because they are both for the most part clean drivers on and off track. (Jamie McMurray and Bobby LaBonte).
You know my Dad always loved Bill Elliot and hated Dale Sr cause he thought he was a dirty driver. I have always loved Dale Jr and Sr I think that Sr was very aggressive and really liked to win what could be wrong with that?
As race drivers go, Earnhardt was indeed one of the dirtiest, but he got as good as he gave. Just ask Rusty and anyone else who raced him hard. There is a really fine line between moving someone out of the way and just knocking them into a wall. Earnhardt knew that line very well. He could move people without crashing them, at least most of the time anyway. I am also not a fan of dirty drivers, but to watch Earnhardt do things with his car that most other drivers could only dream about was very impressive.
Dale was my favorite driver, I loved his style of driving. If it was "dirty" so be it. I'd rather be a fan of a driver others consider "dirty" who goes out there and does whatever it takes to win, than a driver who sits around content on placing 2nd-43rd every week. Points racers bore me to tears, they bring nothing to the sport.
