I think the nickname Kitty is best for the name Kitana and Missy is best for Melisande. However, I think Melissa should have the name nickname Mel or Lissa, and Melisande should be Mel, or Lisa. It would make more sense if Catherine was Kate, Caitlin was either Kate of Lin, and Kitana was Kit or Ana. That way, it wouldn't sound like a name for a child with attitude and it wouldn't sound like a name meant for a 1 week old.

I prefer *Melissa* (or Melissandre / Melissandra). The pronunciation of the French Melisande feels unnatural to me.
