Do you remember the first hockey game you ever saw? Was it live or TV? Did you immediately fall in love with the sport? What aboot that game sticks in your mind the most?
The first game I remember seeing was Seals- Rangers at Madison Square Garden. What makes it stick out was that it was the very first time my dad took me to a hockey game. I had seen hockey on TV ( black and white, at that), but seeing it live was unbelievable. It was also the first time I had witnessed a sporting event in an arena. Rangers won that game.
The first game I ever saw was definitely live. They hadn't started showing Hockey on television yet. The game was probably the Weston Dukes junior "B" game with most likely the St. Michael's Buzzers.
Stars of those teams in those days were Billy Harris, Davey Keon, Frank Mahovolich, Bob Pulford and Dickie Duff. All future NHL Stars. Most of these players were 16 -18 years old at that time.
How exciting the game was to a seven or eight year old kid. 58 years later a Junior game still excites me.
I know the Boston Bruins were involved but I don't recall their opponent. It was probably 1971 or 72 and it was on NBC's Game of the Week. They had "Peter Puck" and all those truckloads of beer later I seem to recall Marv Albert being involved with the game calling - but I'm not sure of that.
I was way too heavily into football and baseball to like anything else at the time, well, except for the females. I became interested enough after the Flyers won their first Stanley Cup to watch EVERY game the following season. Now hockey and football are my favorite sports.
The first game i remember... i think i was 10 when my dad dragged me to my first hockey game. I didn't want to go, but he took me anyways... it turned out to be great! It was just a local team that isn't really good, but it was the first time i had ever heard of hockey so i enjoyed it. I remember their were alot of drunks... its sad that thats what i remember. I was confused about the game at first but after a few years i came to understand the game. I loved hockey from that point on... but i had never watched Pro hockey, so when i finally saw the pros i was in love!
my first game i ever remember was my brother's game. I used to go to his games all the time practices too. As I grew up the caps would constantly be on there was no way that i wasn't going to be a fan. The first nhl game i saw was live i went to the caps centre, i dont remember who they played i just remember what it looked like and tha i was on the jumbotron 1st and only time i've ever been on it. The game that I went to that had the most impact on my love for the game was back in 1998 when the caps were on their run to the finals Game 2 eastern conference finals vs buffalo when hasek threw his glove at bondra haha that was soo awsome. I remeber going to the home opener in the next season and being affraid of the fireballs when they raised the eastern conference champion banner. In recent memory the game that sticks in my memory most is caps vs flyers Game 1 playoffs specially ovie's first playoff goal the place was soo crazy to see verizon jumping agian like it was 10 years ago it was crazy it proved to me that this town can still get caps crazy
For some reason the one thing that sticks out in my head was the Cooperalls the Fly Guys used in the 80s.The first game I went to was in 85 maybe..First game of the year against Rod Langway and the Caps.Zezel and Tocchets first ever game and Bernie went into the Flyers Hall of Fame..Good times.
The first game I ever saw was on T.V. My dad and my grandpa were watching the first game between Ottawa and Toronto in the playoffs. I have to say that being that young (6 or 7) I didn't have the patience to watch the whole game, but what I did watch was pretty fascinating.
The first game I remember remembering... was Wayne Gretzky playing at the Coliseum in Indianapolis in his rookie season and his very first pro game!
Actually I remember many more before that game. I was at every home game (well, almost every) since the Racers inception until their untimely death. My dad was the team dentist and he drug me along and forced me to watch the Racers! What a terrible childhood I had, having to go to all the Racers home games from age 5 to age 10. SARCASM people!
