I guess it depends on the TV. I have a digital TV and couldn't pick up any channels until I attached a digital converter box and antenna. After a lot of trial an error, the best antenna I came up with is a homemade one. It works much better than the store bought antennas. It is very simple to make. If you were receiving your locals rather well in analog, you likely don't. If you were kind of iffy to watch, you likely need a new antenna, installed outside.
