This seems to be the plot of the sacrifice / resurrection story. And I don't get it. How do you sacrifice yourself to yourself? Is that like loaning myself 10 dollars? What do I do, take the money out of my wallet and put it back in? That's not a loan. Just as a sacrifice to yourself is not a sacrifice.
Where's the sacrifice when God makes all the rules and nothing was lost... according to the story God's still around, he's still all powerful... nothing changed except the rules.

Yeah, one more reason I'm not a thumper. But you theists go ahead, dream up some more BS and throw it at the question. I'm thinking that this guy, like most atheists on here, is wearing AtheistTeflon which BS just rolls right off of. The competing brand, ThumperTeflon, deflects logic and evidence.
Esther, no, not really. He didn't have to die. He sent himself down to Earth to die. He did this b/c he was 'sacrificing his only begotten Son so that we could live' (I've heard that line enough to know that that's the story) and the reason we needed saved was b/c God (who is Jesus) was mad at us for sinning (never mind that God made us so that we would sin and knew, when he made us, that we would sin and somehow we're supposed to call this 'free will' and be punished when we do exactly what God made us do. Basically, theism is like this: (*Collander salesman knocks on your door. You open it*) Salesman "Hi, would you like to buy some collanders ! They make great soup bowls !" ... Customer "No, they'll make lousy soup bowls. They're full of holes."... Salesman "No they're not.".
Planner:
man was unable to live according to God's rules
---I'm sorry but who made man ? Maybe God should have done a better job with the whole 'obedience and will power' part. Duh...
+++++
....in the beginning, there was only one rule...'don't eat the fruit from that one tree" and man was not even able to obey that one simple rule.
---what kind of idiot creator puts a booby trapped tree in the Garden in the first place ?
+++++
as man's sinful nature increased,
---again, who made man ?
+++++
God expanded the rules to cover more and more of man's sin since he didn't want to flood the earth again
---he 'didn't want to' ? So ... God was afraid we'd FORCE HIS HAND ? Do you actually know what the meaning of 'omnipotence' is ?
+++++
and start all over like he did with noah, so he gave us more rules in order to help us be less unruly and sinful.
---again, who made man ?
I assume the rest of your post is equally stupid so I'm going to skip it.
Good question! The best that I can come up with is that from time to time throughout history, people appear who are here to raise our consciousness. I don't really get it either though. I see these people as teachers and more often than not, their teachings get distorted and misinterpreted to fit the ideas of whoever thinks they understand it best. If you look at Christianity from an historical point of view, it has gone through some very dismal, chaotic, and violent phases - Spanish Inquision, witch hunts, forced conversions, and that wonderful phase called Word War II when Germany, a Christian country, allowed some of the worst atrocities in history to occur. The rest of the Christian world sat on their hands until it was almost too late. So, I'm not sure what is going on there. Of course, you'll find the same thing with some other religions as well. And yes, nothing seems to have changed except the rules!
First thing you need to know that Almighty God is God and Jesus Christ is his Son. They are two separate beings. Read John 17:3. You bring up some valid questions because Trinitarians would have you believing that the Almighty has a personality disorder,being three persons in one. This is far from Biblical teachings. Christianity derived from Judaism and Judaism was strictly Unitarian-believing that God is one person. Read Deut. 6:4 of the old testament and again Mark 12:29 for confermation in the new testament. Trinitarianism came about in the fourth century and did not accurately reflect the early Christian teaching regarding the nature of God. Read Matt. 26:39 now if the Father and the Son were not distinct individuals, such a prayer would have been meaningless. Jesus would have been praying to himself, and his will would of necessity have been the Father's will.
God the Father is perfectly holy, pure & just; therefore, He must punish all sin, otherwise He would be unjust. In an astonishing act of grace He provided the way for your offences against Him to be removed, when you confess your sins to Him and ask His forgiveness; He will! Then turn from them proving your repentance is real. Trust Jesus (God the Son) took the punishment your sins deserved, on His cross (aka “believing in Jesus”). I have done this; so can you.
Read how the Bible says to be right with God, Matthew 4:17; Acts 2:38; Acts 3:19; Romans 2:4-5; Romans 3:23-24; James 2:10; Hebrews 9:27; 1 John 1:8-9; Romans 5:8; Romans 10:9-10; Romans 10:13; Ephesians 2:8-9; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 Peter 3:18; John 3:36; 1 John 5:11-13; www.GodsLoveProven.com
Loaning yourself $10.00 is hardly sacrificing yourself. God is God. He lowered Himself to become a man. He was fully man but fully God. Would you willingly be tortured and nailed on a cross to die an agonizing death if you didn't have to? Read about what happens to a person when they are crucified. God did not have to do that. He was our substitute for death. The first death is when we leave our human bodies. We were not originally created to die. We were made to live forever in a relationship with God. But not trusting Him and wanting to do our own thing resulted in death. Jesus died in His human body and rose from the dead in that human body to show that God will give us eternal life with Him.
well, god created adam and eve with curiosity and free will, when they used their free will to act on their curiosity, god got angry at them and cursed their entire bloodline
so the only way a loving god can forgive them for using their free will is having his son (who is also himself) tortured and killed (well, not really as he is still alive) so that anyone who believes his story that was written in a scientifically inaccurate book will go to heaven where they will get to kiss god's a$$ for all eternity
It was not God who sacrificed himself..it was his son Jesus Christ. Christ died on the cross for our sins, that we may be forgiven, & have life everlasting. Christian belief is that baptism only need be done once...it's everlasting...one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
You're a bit confused. Jesus died on a cross to save us from our sins. Big difference.
Man couldn't live under the law.
The story goes, that he sacrificed himself for our sins, but its all rubbish in my opinion anyway.
