It may be simple as pie, but i just need to make sure i am doing everything right as this is a big thing to do.
When i book a flight online, where do i get the ticket? The airport or do i print it?
When i get to the airport, how do i know which gate is mine?
When will i have to show my passport since i am leaving the USA?
How would i convert my USD to Australian dollars?
Update:Thank you guys for your answers. They mean the world to me. Also, i cannot book a flight straight out of TN to Queensland, because i believe the only airlines that go from the USA to Australia is called Qantas, and they only go out of Dallas Fort Worth and Los Angelos. I would rather go to LA and cut a little time. It's already a 14 hour flight from LA to Queensland lol.

Go to www.tripadvisor.com to look for flights. Do not book TN to CA to Queensland. Book it from your city in TN to the city in Queensland. Let the computer do the connections. After you book and pay for your ticket, you will receive a confirmation that you need to print out and take to the airport.
When you get to the airport, you go to the ticket counter to show your confirmation and your passport. All of your check-in will be done in Tennessee. They will also check your suitcase all the way through. When you change planes, you just have to get to the gate. In TN, the ticket agent will tell you the gate number. Just follow the signs at the ceiling level.
You can convert your US dollars at the airport at your arrival city. However, I recommend you charge as much as possible on a credit card so you don't have to carry a lot of cash.
Remember that you need a visa if you are a US citizen. See

You can go to http://www.kayak.com/ to help you find a ticket. Once you buy a ticket, you will receive a confirmation number. You will use the confirmation number to check-in. When you check-in, you will get your boarding pass which will tell you what gate the flight is departing from. You show your passport when you check-in. You will show your passport again when you go through security. As for converting your money, you can do it at the bank, at a hotel or at the airport. The airport and hotel usually have a less favorable rate so I recommend the bank. Some places/cities will have booths where you can exchange money as well. Don't know if Queensland has any of these.
Just use an ATM card to get cash.
Your ATM card must carry either the CIRRUS, PLUS or STAR international ATM mark or the Interlink or Maestro POS mark. Travellers should contact their bank at home for information on availability and service charges.
