My stereo has 2 RCA inputs (L & R). I have 2 devices (that wouldn't be on at the same time) with 4 total RCA outputs that I need to hook up to my stereo. My thinking is to just get 2 RCA Y splitters & plug each device into one splitter & plug each splitter into one of the inputs in my stereo (please refer to this amazing drawing: http://i.imgur.com/V28ur.png). Will this work or will one device only play from one speaker? Is there a better way to do it?

I think you will get interference connecting the 2 inputs. What you may consider is getting an AUDIO/VIDEO selector. With this you can have up to 4 inputs running into your stereo & all you would have to do is select Channel A, B,C or D.
You cannot use splitters to combine 2 stereo audio outputs into 1. Splitters work great the other way - to split one output into two.
You need to use a simple 2 way AV switch:

The yellow connectors for video will go unused.
