You might want to check if you have locking hubcaps, or on some they are held on by the lug nuts. Check for a cap covering the center section, that has a little slot on one side you can slip a flat-bladed scredriver into to pry that off first.
This depends on the hubcap, - some have a little Medallian that "pops off" in the center of the hubcap, and there may be a lock there - that takes a special key - looks like "wavy circle" this is cut out in center, so that the key unscrews the lock-- if you have a funny looking key (which is about 2 incheds long, and about 1/2 inch in diameter with a little rod sticking through it near one end, -- you are very lucky-- (look in glovebox) I did not have that key when I bought my 83 model! I was lucky, the tire went flat in my yard, - it took me 3 days of trying to buy or borrow a key, -- finally I cut slots in each "lock screw" (with a high speed grinder), and took them out with a screwdriver! Found regular hex-headed bolts, and slotted them (for good measure), and deposited the "locks in the tashcan"!! Once you get the little caps off, you can look inside and see if you have locks or not, -because if you have locks and no key, you can not get them out! Once you get
the locks out, yiou can then pry the caps off, - when off, you will see a "U" shaped metal strap with the "nut" furtherest out on bracket, (looks sort of like a spider)- it has two holes on one end ,-and one on the other! Remove this and set aside then you can pull the(other nuts &) wheel off, when you put wheel back on, put one nut almost tight on wheel, then put "spider looking bracket" back on with the three nuts finger tight also, Put 5th nut on and tighten clear down, go across and tighten other nut (not on bracket) tighten one on other side again, then on single side of "spider bracket". The reason you go across to other side instead of next nut, - is that it makes the wheel center more perfectly, -- after all are tight, go around and check each one to make sure you didn't miss one! With the spider on, the bolt (or lock) will hold the hubcap on so it can't fall off! With it out the cap seems to go on pretty good, but may fly off as you drive down the road! This is for the fancy wire wheel hubcaps that come wiht it new! If it has some other hubcap it prys off like other cars do, - if it won't come off, and pops back in when you stop prying, --then they have locks on them!
a flat head screwdriver will work and like you said just pry from the outside edges, make sure you pop off the center cap to see if it has a lock on it, because if it has a lock on it you will bend up the edges before it comes off

Take the center cap out of the hub cap and dig around in the car to find the tool that fits the bolt you see in there!!
Most of those had a lock in the center. Take the middle cap off and unscrew the lock bolt with the key.
you should see a slot on it where you can put a screwdriver in it and prop it off, and yes it will go back on!
