Your Catholic Church should have a religious education class. Since you are just 16 you cannot join the RCIA which is conversion program for adults but your pastor might make an exception.

Choose a church and begin attending Mass. Introduce yourself to the other parishioners and speak with them about the church. It may be helpful to attend Mass at more than one church. Pick one that appeals to you.

Contact the Parish Office of your chosen church and speak with them about your choice to convert. Attend classes or group meetings designed for potential converts, common at most parishes. Speak with the Priest or Deacon about why you want to convert to ensure you are sincere and committed.

Initiate the RCIA process at your chosen Parish once you have committed yourself to conversion. There are four main periods during the process-Pre-Catechumenate, The Catechumenate, Purification and Enlightenment and Mystagogy. The amount of time spent in each period is not set; rather, it depends on individual needs and feelings.

Become Confirmed and participate in the Sacrament of the Eucharist during the Easter Vigil (also be Baptized if not already). At this time you become a Neophyte and full member of the Roman Catholic Church.

Perhaps it would be best to start with a discussion with the Pastor of a parish near to you or a priest that you know and trust from your school. Catholic churches nearly always have religious education programs which are set up specifically to guide you in your decision of whether the Catholic faith is right for you and how best to progress toward full participation in the sacraments. They are by design low pressure and flexible enough to accommodate students at many different levels of commitment. The more information and prayerful reflection you have the better you will know if you are being called to this community. Since you go to Catholic school, you can ask a priest how to get started. There will be catechism classes in which you are asked set questions, like " Why did god make me?" and then given the Catholic answer for you to memorize.

The Catholic church has some very dramatic and lovely ceremonies and churches, which tend to bring people out of their little lives into BIG LIFE!

To believe as a Catholic, you have to agree to allow a senile old man (Pope Peter Pan) who has never married or had children, to tell you how to have sex, which whom and when, and to have as many children as "god" wants you to have. To attempt to decide for yourself can get you in hot water. You can get tossed out. Imagine having to confess to a priest that you had sex with Your husband but don't want kids right away so you prevented them. It is a SIN!

You would take a series of instructional classes called the RCIA program, at the end of which you would receive your first Holy Communion and the Sacrament of Confirmation, and be formally received as a member of the one Church founded by Jesus Christ. In most parishes the RCIA prorgam starts each year about this time, so you should inquire about it. I have taught the RCIA classes in my parish for many years, and we begin this year's classes this coming Sunday.

Your going to a Catholic School, so direct your question to a teacher or a staff member there who can hook you up with the right people at your local parish. RCIA classes will be involved.

Discuss this with your parents and get their permission. If they are hesitant give them time to think about it; if they forbid it, obey them; you may continue to learn about Catholicism on your own and then formally convert when you are 18.

Your teachers and classmates will help you with all the formalities. It is exciting to know of your interest and you are welcome to become prepared to receive communion with us and be confirmed. Do, however, respect the wishes of your parents regarding formal conversion.
