First rule: the lobster must be alive. NEVER cook a lobster that isn't living.
After that, you can cook him anyway you want. The easiest way is to bring a kettle of water big enough to hold the lobster to a boil. Then drop the lobster in the boiling water head first. Put a lid on the pot and cook for 3 to 7 minutes (depending on the size). The shell will turn bright red, the best indicator that he is done.
You can boil it or steam it. The best method is to get a pot that the lobster will fit in, add a couple inches of water, and once it boils, add your lobster and cover to steam.
A red shell is NOT an indicator of doneness. The lobster will turn red before it is cooked. The best way to tell for doneness is to have a female lobster and check the roe. Take out the lobster, and on the top between the body and tail, separate that a bit and cut in to see the roe. If it's black, it's not done. If it's red, it's cooked.
Lobster must be cooked in salty water, so that the flavour of the meat is maintained, and sea water is preferred if available. Do not panic if sea water is not an option for you, as salted tap water will be fine.
You may add a mixture of wine, vegetables and herbs to the water in order to give the lobster meat more flavour. The residual liquid may also be used to make a delicious stock or sauce. Ingredients that can be added include white wine, pepper, parsley, celery, onions, carrots, or bay leaves.
Boil your water I like to add a little salt to mine. But that is me. Then place the lobster in te boiling water once it get a bright red color take it out I like to squeeze lemon juice on mine and eat it with garlic butter.
To make my Garlic butter it is easy I place crused garlic in a small sauce pan to brown and bring the flavors out then when the garlic is cooked I add the butter when it is melted I serve.
Hope this helps you
If you have any mor cooking questions I would be happy to answer
the best way is to clarify about 5 lbs of butter...heat this in a double boiler to 180 degrees...put in the lobster for 1 hour. this will be the best, most tender lobster you have ever tasted!!!
