How do you read this data?

I need to do a project on global warming for Pre-cal and i need to find the annual global temp from 1980 - 2008. I found this table with a bunch of numbers on it on the NASA website. I tried using the little conversion formula at the bottom of the page and i found the difference in average temperature between 1980 and 2008. What I got was 32F(.19C) for 1980 and 33F(.58C) for 2008 and this doesn't seem right to me because the difference in temperature is only 1 degree Fahrenheit. I was using the "Combined Land-Surface Air and Sea-Surface Water Temperature Anomalies (Land-Ocean Temperature Index, LOTI)" table. There's another table called "Means Based on Land-Surface Air Temperature Anomalies Only (Meteorological Station rel="nofollow">http:// rel="nofollow">http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/

Btw I used the J-D number on the table, not the D-N.
