3 days, and take him to the vet. He'll probably have one tomorrow. Haven't you ever gone a day without having a BM? Dogs are no different, sometimes they just don't have to go...
The chicken and rice diet is usually used for dogs that have a stomach virus or intestinal problem and they are having problems with diarreha/ vomiting. So I would not feed your pup that. The best thing to do is call your vet. Depending on the reason for the constipation. Pups love to eat everything they should not, and may have something lodged in the intestine. Or there may be some other medical reason why your pup is constipated. My vet at one time had me give my pup some hairball removal ointment used for cats to treat her constipation. A little dab did the trick, but I would call the vet first. The site listed gives great advice.
I remember reading something when my (human) babies were little...
"Constipation is when a child poohs less than its mother"
One day is really not an issue. Make sure your pet has access to fresh water and I'm sure everything will be fine.
** you don't say whether the pup has actually been trying to go. Is it straining or looking distressed or has it just not gone today. One is constipation, the other just a day off.
the link below has some good diet advice for dog and cat owners
i have included the web site that i found the answer to your question , i would suggest to go and read more in dept the article that i found you ranswer in .
. Feed your dog a natural diet that includes fresh vegetables with sufficient amounts of bulk. Raw meat is also considered a natural laxative for dogs. If your dog's stool looks dry, add ½ to 1 teaspoon of bran (depending on his weight) to each serving of meal. Adding bran helps the stools hold extra moisture. You may also apply a similar treatment using ¼ to 2 teaspoons of powdered psyllium seed. This is available online and in most health food stores.
2. You may also use mineral oil temporarily in cases where there is a large build-up of hard stools. Depending on the size of your dog, add ½ to 2 teaspoons to his meals twice a day, for no longer than a week. Continued use of this method is not ideal because the oil will draw reserves of vitamin A from the dog's body. In addition, continued use of this process may create a dependency on its use for normal elimination.
3. Make sure that the dog is getting plenty of opportunity to go outside to relieve himself. Another treatment that is very effective is to make sure that your dog is getting enough sufficient exercise. Exercise is vital for massaging his internal organs and increasing the blood flow all over his body, which also stimulates a slow metabolism. Running, long walks, or playing fetch are great forms of exercise that both you and your dog can benefit from
call a local vet and they will be more than willing to help you out over the phone. they can give you some suggestions and or ask you some to see if you need to take the pup in to get seen. i called mine about my dog having the runs and he told me over the phone it was the food that i was feeding him. i was giving my dog bentiful and he told me to stop or mix it with another type of food over the phone. i got help over the phone for free for something simple vrs going into a vet and paying a fee.

Try some plain canned pumpkin with his meals (about 2 tbsp). It contains a lot of fiber and should help.
Take him to the vet you should find out something even if you have to spend $100.
well first u give your puppy water give your dog soft dog food if he eats hard depends on a paticular brand and just hope that it works good luck!!!
chicken and rice should work and i would try to feed it to him for a few days
I guess you mean he is conStipated.
If he hasn't had one tomorrow, call your vet.
