I am planning on getting a Striata Botia Loach and put him in a 20 gallon tank and when I see he is over growing his tank i will put him in my 50 gallon tank with my gold gourami and rosy barb.
Max size is 4", and you could actually keep several in a 20 gal for life (or move them to the 50 gal)
These loaches are a social fish, they do NOT like to live alone, and will be very stressed and shy. So get several. They will be OK in a 20 gal, or as I said you can move them to the 50 once they get a bit bigger.

They can grow to huge sizes with proper care, but of your tank is not big enough, it will stay fun-sized:)
