My husband and I plan to name our first daughter Clara, but I'm a little concerned that the name seems to be rising in popularity a little faster than I want it to. Maybe what is concerning me is that I met a little baby Clara a few weeks ago at a church we were visiting ... I had never met a baby Clara before. I know it's ranked #199 nationally, but it's not a name I had heard on a child in my area before.
Because Clara is a family name on my husband's side, we'll probably still use it. I'm just curious: How many people called Clara do you know? How old are they?
Thanks!

I live in the UK and I've never met a Clara, I really like the name. It's old fashioned but not dated and it's a good choice.
I associate the name with the 1920s and 1930s glamour (probably because of Clara Bow) so whilst it's an older name, I don't associate it with an older person and I think it could sound great on a child.
I wouldn't worry about it being too popular, I'm not sure of the stats, but it's probably very popular in some states and very rare in others, maybe if you had a look at Clara's popularity for your state, you could decide whether or not it's too popular for you.
I do know what you mean though, Eleanor is my favourite name and it's becoming very popular at the moment.
Out of curiosity, how would you pronounce Clara? (Clare-uh) or (Clar-ah)
My best friends little sister is 3 and her name is Clara. That's the only Clara I know that's young. At the Nursing Home I take my dog (he's a therapy dog) to, I know four Clara's, but they're all over 75. ;)
I know of only one Clara. She lives next door to me and is seven-years-old. We live in Tennessee, if that makes a difference.
Personally, I don't think it's popular at all. Like I said, she's the only Clara I've ever met.
:D
I've never met a Clara. Just a Kara that I can think of. :)
I think it's a very nice name, and I wouldn't say it's popular at all. I think it might be that it has a normal sound to it like some of the more classic names that would make somebody think it's popular, when in actuality it's not a common name.
Good luck! Follow your gut instinct! :D
I personally know one Clara. I'm unsure of her exact age, but she's probably in her late 80s / early 90s. I've never met a baby Clara before either, but I would be ecstatic to meet one! :)
I don't know anyone named Clara, but I've heard of the name before and I like it:)
I know two Clara's.
One who's 15, shes an absolute snob and a pain in the backside and by grandma's friend Klara who's like 70 something
I have never met a Clara but apparently it was the name of my great-great-grandmother.
It's a really pretty name though.
I can only think of one Clara.. my old boss who's probably in her late 40s now. Clara is a gorgeous name, and she doesn't sound trendy or anything, so I think you should definitely use her! I have similar worries about Imogen, Violet, Alice and Eloise.. they're all top 100 here in Ausralia.
