My whole life i've had self esteem issues. When anything goes wrong, my first thought is always something like "it's because i'm ugly", and no matter what people tell me, i can't get around it. If i ever get rejected, or if someone doesn't like me, or anything like that i always just jump to the conclusion that i'm ugly. It's not that i'm not a happy person, i have plenty of friends and i live a pretty happy life, but i hate always being insecure and having lots of self esteem problems. What can i do to change my mindset?
Update:Ohyes, my mom calls me ugly a lot too -- that adds to things.

The only reason you think you're ugly is because you agree with your thoughts.
You have to disagree with your thoughts because their untrue. Ugly/pretty is only an opinion, there are no standard facts of what is ugly or cute. Therefore if you think you're ugly, it's only because you think that, not because everyone else thinks it. So look in the mirror and name, even if it's forcefully, just name all the cool good looking things about yourself and use that to counter and bad thoughts you have.
----- Your mom calls you ugly? Oh man that sucks. Well that explains why you have self esteem problems. She doesn't sound like a good mother. Well either way there is still no solid facts of what looks good or ugly so that's just her opinion like everyone has. You should try to talk to a counselor about that.
Maybe you can ask your friends if you're ugly.
Low self esteem goes with putting others on a better than you perspective.
Social anxiety has to do with feeling uncomfortable in social situations.
So if you can get this example we might be able to get you feeling better
about yourself, sound good ?
Ok you are human, others are human therefore being a human yourself
means your as valuable as any other human ? Can you see that ?
It has nothing to do with occupation, possessions, or status.
Just the belief your as good as anyone else.

Imagine every time you think you're ugly, it shows... Remember, looks are skin deep. Those who dwell on it have much less to offer someone. They are too absorbed with worrying about what others think. I have been in relationships non stop since I was 18. What I lacked in looks, I made up in personality.
Nobody's out thinking "This persons ugly.. and so is this one.. and this one too". Chill. And if they are, then they got there own issues they have to deal with.
