New to SWTOR COOP/ Play with a friend/ Starter planet length?
My roommate and I are looking to play this together and have a few questions. Our time is very limited as he works nights and I days. About how long does it take to do a starter planet? I know this is a subjective questions but ball park will be acceptable. We are not trying to rush through this just get to a suitable point we can actually play together. We know we can both start on the the same planet but we want to have variety and not be to similar, he wants to role commando and I jedi so we can have long range and melee. I have searched up and down but the forums are kinda terrible and any information I pull up on google was last dated 2011/2012. Any helpful updated guidance would be super appreciated. Thank You!

Commando and Jedi start on two different planets - keep that in mind. You can of course visit the other starter planet after you finish *your* starter planet.
The starter planet took me about 3 to 4 hours back when the game was launched with my first character (Bounty Hunter so Sith side but my Commando took about the same), this is with paying attention to the story, exploring and so on. I think you could do it in less than an hour if you either skip or do the group quest(s) with experienced players and know where you need to head next.
