USB 2 is the new standard. It ismuch faster in operation. If your system has 1,0, there is no way to upgrade since it is a hardware interface. The only option you have for speed is to get a 2.0 card and install it in the system. If a laptop, you will need a PCMCIA card. Most 2.0 devices are backward compatible with 1.0, just will always give a notice that it will run faster with upgrade. I ran a 2.0 printer for several months on an older system and saw very little difference in speed.
