You could do a punch? But my favourite cocktail is a little sugar on an ice cube - pour over a measure of brandy and then top up with champagne or cider. If you drink half a pint of beer and then make that cocktail with cider - it has a weird effect.
I always have vodka, rum, and bourbon. The basics for most people. My friend likes Vodka with lemonade, or vodka and OJ, or my favorite is a white Russian-Kahlua, White rum and milk. I keep amaretto, Kahlua, Baileys Irish cream, Malibu on hand. Plus make sure you have an assortment of juices. That way there is a variety of things to try. If you want recipes I like www.webtender.com. You will find any kind of drink you want.
make sure youve got plenty of umbrellas and toys for cocktail glasses, and get the glasses dressed up just before people arrive, as it is very time comsuming putting a cocktail together, for bland looking drinks use food dyes to add effect, you can use anything from salt or sugar around the glass rim to drinking chocolate powder just dampen the rim of the glass by running a slice of lemon around the rim, to totally going overboard with small fruit {grapes cherries} pierced and thread up the straws, dont forget the orange lemon and lime slices , this is a good time of year for cocktails because its easy to get sparklers to put in the glasses when serving any firework shop will have them get yourself a cocktail book for drinks to suit your taste,i wont give you recipes to obvious cocktails as you will be flooded with them on your answers to this question but one that goes down well is a drink that tastes like a bounty chocolate bar it is made of
malabu, ice cold milk and a sprinkle of drinking chocolate powder on the top for effect, very moreish
another one is get a small glass of butterscotch shnapps and put inside a larger glass of baillys when you drink the drink it mixes as you tip the glass, make sure the two liquids are of equal height when served {small glass full to stop it floating}.
dont forget non alcoholic coctails for the drivers and children, a good one for the children is a simple but great looking orange juice lime juice and lemonade but gently pour some grenadine syrup around the edge of the glass this will give you the effect of a sunset, kids love it
Pitchers of cocktails will work best and it's easier. Try Malibu Bay Breezes (malibu rum, pineapple and cranberry with ice) and cranberry orange cosmo's (vodka, cranberry, orange garnished with limes) and a sangria (red wine with all kinds of frozen fruit) - YUM!
pour a shot of Madurai or after shock , and gentle trickle some baileys on the top it should sit just perfect on top like a kind of head lol good luck x

Vodka Mules
vodka/lime/ginger ale
Mai Tai
barcardi/dark rum/orange juice/grenadine
Or I like to just experiment with whatever is to hand
(usually the best way to get very drunk)
You can name your homemade cocktails after mates
(eg the poppy pick me up, or the micheal manhatten)
(please think of better names than mine though)

Well I've just been looking for cocktail recipes and found this one which I think sounds really lovely -
1 Shot Blackberry liquer
1 Shot Gin
1 Shot lemon juice
tsp sugar syrup
Mixed and topped with soda water, served with ice and fresh blackberries.
Yum
