I've had my cat "Calie" for 8 years and I've always thought she was a calico, but when I see other calicos they look nothing like her, she has thick fur and has black and orange in spots all over and her entire belly is white, when we got her as a kitten they told us she was a calico but she doesn't look anything like other ones, she's actually a really pretty cat, is she another breed or is it just she is randomly like that?

Calico isn't a breed- it's a color pattern. So different breeds can be calico. They can have long, medium, or short fur. Calicos have to have 3 colors in order to be called calico. They have to be white, black, and orange/brown. Some calicos are muted colors, so they are white, yellow, and gray. If all the colors are blended together (not distinct areas of color) with more color than white, that is known as a tortoiseshell calico. If a cat is a tortoiseshell with stripes, that is known as a torbie (TORtoiseshell tabBIE).
Calico is a coat color only. Its NOT a breed of cat. Calico cats come in long and short hair. If your cat has black, red (orange) and white on her, she is considered to be calico.
Most times calicos have a lot of white compared to the color spots. If your girl has white on the tummy only, then she would be called a "tortie & white" (which is the same as a calico).
Definitely a calico. That variation isn't really as common, and I think it's technically called a tortoise shell calico. But she's still a calico : ) lucky you. I think they're gorgeous cats
