It is a unique version of the very popular name Amelia, To me though it is too similar to Amelia, And could end up getting called Amelia by people who don't know you/the child very well.I actually prefer the name Amelia, But thats just me :)

In fact, according to behindthename.com Amelia is acctually a variant of Amalia, not the other way around! :)
It's not popular here in Australia, my daughter is called Amelia and even that wasn't too popular up until about a year ago.
It is different, but I can see people would assume the name was spelt wrong and call her Amelia anyway, that would be my only problem with that name.

Yes, it's unique-but you may be correcting people for years with the Amelia's pronunciation.
2 people at my school are called Amalia
