Hello,
I just want to know how to take away, for example, 20% from $200 How would you calculate this, Can you please provide the steps involved to work it out and the answer.
Thank you
There are two ways to do this.
One is to find 80% of $200, because 80% would be 20% off.
Let's do that first.
80% x $200
80/100 x $200 (80/100 means 80%)
4/5 x $200 (Reduce fraction)
$800/5 (Multiply)
ANSWER: $160 (Divide)
Another way to do this is to find 20% of $200 and subtract the number you find from $200.
Let's try that now.
20% x $200
20/100 x $200 (20/100 means 20%)
1/5 x $200 (Reduce fraction)
$200/5 (Multiply)
$40 (Divide)
$200 - $40 (Subtract, to "take off 20%," now that we've found 20%)
ANSWER: $160 (Subtraction)
As you can see, the first step took less time and effort.
200/100=2 (this gives you 1% of your starting figure)
2x20=40 (this gives you the 20% you wish to take away)
200-40=160 (take away to provide the answer)
This can work on any number so if you wanted to do this: 35% of 800
800/100=8
8x35=280
800-280=520 which is 800-35%
hope this helps
turn the percentage into decimal form
so: .20 x 200 = 20% of $200,
= 0.2($200)
= $40
Answer: $40 is 20% of $200
u turn the percent into a decimal multiply ur answer to the 200
the answer 40
