Canada has the trans canada highway that goes from the west coast all the way to the east coast in between the two are most of all the provinces which has mostly flat land. The west coast such like Vancouver, British Columbia has the rocky mountains as well as large cities and also country side the more east you go through the provinces the more flat land you travel with smaller towns but nice. Ontario has Windsor and Toronto as cities but the larger is Toronto. Then I beleive it's Ottawa. Quebec and Montreal are french cities and as you move the more east you get closer to the other provinces but also Islands.
The west coast and some of the provinces as far east as Alberta with the cities I beleive are well known for the latest in technologies if that is what you are referring to in electronics. Windsor Ontario I beleive is close to the State Border of Detroit Michigan and seems to have weather that goes from Winter to Summer because spring warms up quickly there for some reason but winters seem longer, but snowfall at most times seem less accumulation, but there is rain. The east coast is beautiful also, but they seem to struggle with economic stability out there, and have been hard hit with weather the last few years. It is cold there too. Not sure what you're quite looking for, but Toronto, Ontario one of the larger cities has been dealing with gun violence and other various etc...doesn't sound very positive or safe in my opinion for children. The costs of living is very high and there's not much of property to the homes there due to limited space in the city almost as though you per square foot. You can search the web for the cities and or the provinces to give you an idea of what each province has to offer through their communities. Hope that was helpful, good luck to you and your family!
Canada is a great place to live and raise a family. We have health care, a great public school system friendly warm citizens ( well most of them every country has it's idiots). The province of Quebec is a little different though in terms of the kids I mean. They have a daycare program that far surpasses anything the est of the country is doing and from what I have been told by some when you go to school in Quebec you are able to attend post secondary education for free. Don't quote me on that though like I said that is just from a friend of a friend type thing. Check out the individual provinces websites. You will get a lot of info there. Alberta is booming right now in terms of work. You basically can pick and choose what you want to do. I lived in Vancouver for a time myself and hated it. Sorry to any of you who disagree. I myself would never bring my kids up there. I am originally from Nova Scotia and would move back there in a heart beat if the economy was a little More stable there. You will never find a better breed of people than those from the maritimes. I currently live in Ontario and enjoy it just fine. Good luck
Well, I think Canada is quite similar to Australia in a few ways ~ both part of the Commonwealth.... so the Queen's on our money, we watch Corrie everyday and have all the best chocolate... LOL and it's also similar in size.... but I think you might find it rough in the winter. It gets nice and hot in the summer and we have fantastic autumns, but winter can get to be a drag with the short days and severe cold. It's all about perspective though, we've invented lots to do to pass the time... and when summer rolls around again you appreciate it so much more! If you can manage finding a job, the East Coast is a GREAT place to live and raise a family. I wouldn't choose anywhere else. I would suggest Halifax, Nova Scotia (not far away from the other "Sydney" which is in Cape Breton - the northeast part of NS) Cape Breton is the most beautiful place with lots of culture and the friendliest folks, but the unemployment is high. Halifax is a great city though with lots of multiculturalism. Check out these sites for more info:

If you want to be closer to Australia, and have milder/rainy winters, I would suggest Vancouver.
About the economy, I believe that it is similar to Australia but environmentally, it can be quite messy in some parts of Canada...mostly in big cities. I still think that Australia is the best place to stay if you compare both countries. My suggestion would be to visit Canada first to see what you're up against before moving there.
To give yourself a better idea of what is here in Canada for you, each province has their own web-sites where you can check out our health care, day-care, workers comp, motor vechicleacts, etc. As well the federal government has sites as well. For real estate prices go to mls.ca, click on area or province and you will get an idea as to cost of homes in any area. Southern Ontario has the greatest concentration of tech jobs but the cost of a home is better in the Maritime provinces. Good luck with your move and as a Commonwealth country, you will find Austrailia and Canada share alot of the same institutions. Mildest winters are in Vancouver area followed by southern Ontario.
I wish I could trade with you and move from Canada to Austalia..Good luck with the cold winters.
I think Canada would be a great place to move.
