I took my dog to the vet today which i think might be too late. I called the vets around because my dog was drinking water and throwing up. So they said to give her pepto bismoll which i did and the next day she still looks the same. So i called the vet and they said I was suppose to give her 2 dosage so i gave her another this morning. She was doing a little better, still drinking and throwing up until she started throwing up blood. So I took her to the vet and they tested her for parvo, she said its slight parvo. So she said she wanted to keep her in for IV... but I didnt have they money until sat. So she gave me some antibiotic pills. And she said she hopes she'll make it through. She said not to give her water for the next 24 hours. So shes back home and Im just afraid she might not make it. Im waiting for tomorrow so i can call people to borrow money.. Anyone who can share some ray of sunshine. Well she make it..
Update:one more thing I kept calling all the vets and telling them my situation and crying I even called the humane society and they said they would put her to sleep I called all the vets I could. I never had a vet friend. I applied for the care credit got denied. Im from hawaii and i called all the vets that I could. And i was so mad, Alot of people would say oh yeah pets are like human. Than why dont they have that same for emergencies.. When we sick and we dont have insurance they tell us that still cant deny anyone. But if your dog has an emergency why dont they have that same option. But no they want money first. Yeah if I had a child I would take him to the emergency and they will bill me later. So why dont they do that for animals. When a dog or cat is stuck in a tree, fast we call 911 and ask them to save them but when they need medical attention they turn ask you to pay upfront. Sighs.. I wanted to take this into legal matters cause it fustrates me. well thats it no more word can fit

As said see another vet, your pup needs water to keep hydrated, I can't understand why they would say not to give her water when they wanted to put her on an IV drip. You cannot afford to wait, most vets will let you pay for treatment in instalments and treat your dog straight away. Find a vet that's in it for the health of the animals and not for the money.
Good luck.
She needs to stay hydrated, and needs to eat. I have nursed many puppies through parvo, and no matter what anyone else says the vaccine doesn't completely prevent the disease, I had a mom and pups I was fostering and at 6 weeks they were vaccinated, at 8 weeks they went to an adoption event and wound up picking up parvo. I had to nurse them all through, mom didn't get it though so she got to help.
Stay with her and make sure she is drinking and eating. I would get her some puppy formula for the nutrients and mix it with some puppy wet food, spoon feed her if you have too. Don't overfeed her but make sure that she is eating a few bites at least after she vomits. Try to maintain at least the amount she would normally eat. Most importantly though keep her hydrated. Someone else already pointed it out but why would they want to put her on an IV and then turn around and say keep her off water, that's not right, I'd find a new vet when you can as well.
Call the vet and take the pup back to get the iv started. Take him home on the iv the hospitalization is what costs so much.
She only gae you antibiotics. SHe should have given you metro to help with the stomach upset. If she didn't continue the pepto.
Do not allow the pup to eat till all vomiting has stopped. Watch for signs of dehydration grey gums is a big sign thats easy for you. If you are forcing water orally only do so in small amounts. A baby syringe for medicine is great for this. Pedialyte is better than water.
Added:
They say keep her off water because its harder on the body and the digestive system to throw up. SHe is throwing up blood she is already tearing up the lining of her stomach and esophegus. Anytime vomiting and diarhea are present you need to stop the intake of food so don't give her canned, or puppy formula.
Vaccinations are NOT foolproof. Most pups get parvo from the vets office going to get their vaccines at which time its too late.

Jess : Ive dealt with hundreds of parvo dogs/ parvo survivors. And in your "vet tech class" did they tell you parvo is done with "blood" Its not!! Its a STOOL sample. So there goes how much you are telling on here. Im sure as you go by a customer with a puppy at your vet you remind them to keep it off the floors. That's because parvo is spread so rampantly in vet offices even the receptionist knows that!!!
Exposure to Kennel cough is most often at a vets too!!
Most Vet's use in house snap test kits for parvo testing. You mix a blood sample, with a activator, drop it in the well of the test kit and when the blood flows past a certain point, you snap one part of the test kit down and time it for 8 mins. When the test it done, you read the results by a series of indicator dots that come up, sometimes the positive indicator dot for parvo, is very faint in color....this is what is called a "slight positive".
I'd call your Vet back and ask if you could sign a promissory note to pay on Saturday, that's ridiculous that they turned you away, although it happens quite often. You could call another Vet, but would have to obtain all your dogs medical records (or the new Vet can request that they be faxed over to them).
With parvo, there is a 50/50 chance. Very young and very old dogs seem to do worse. My cat years ago actually tested a "slight positive" for panleukepenia (kind of a cat form of parvo) and she's still with me....it's all a game of chances, but she needs to be put on IV's so she doesn't dehydrate and antibiotics to prevent secondary infections.
Good luck!
JR-most pups DO NOT get parvo from he Vet's office, that's just silly. Where do you get your info, if I may ask?
Go and find yourself another Vet who will let you pay it off.
I don't understand what the Vet means by SLIGHT PARVO.....it's either Parvo or it's not.
I'm not also sure about witholding water from a dog when it's not on IV.....I really feel you need a seconf opinion.
Parvo is a horrible illness, it will kill your dog if left untreated, you need to find another Vet.
i would take her to another vet for a second opinion. they should've treated her, and gave you a payment plan. best of luck with her, and let us all know how it goes.
*EDIT*
so sorry to hear about your pup. i visited your myspace, and she was so precious. just remember that everything happens for a reason. and you're right with that emergency thing, they should have a 911 type thing for dogs. stay strong and try to have a happy holiday.
if ur dog is less than 6 months old, then, the parvo virus is very risky for her.try and follow these instructions please as much as u can; 1/keep ur dog WARM as much as possible(VERY IMPORTANT) 2.DON'T feed her any type of meat now for 14 days, just focus on yoghurt mixed w/7-up and give it to her WARM ,every 2-3 hours;30-50 ml.3/keep giving her pepto bismoll for 14 days, twice a day.4/always wipe her eyes using warm water w/tissues,or u can use any eyes tear drops. 5/try and be w/her as much as u can;she needs to have u around her.6/ if she manages to make it the first 7 days, start feeding her pieces of bread mixed w/yoghurt and rice.7/ since her immunity system is very weak now,u should wait 3 months b4 u give her the vaccines................take care and hope ur dog becomes better soon....keep us informed......Merry x-mas and best wishes for ur dog.
You need to go to another vet, what this vet has told you doesn't sound correct.
If your dog does have parvo. it will have a better chance if it is a cross breed.
why doesn't your dog have her vaccines? such an easily preventable disease. are you sure the vet said slight parvo? like above-dogs either have it or they don't. you need to find another vet ASAP or your dog will die. its a horrible disease and, again, easily preventable.
Your dog WILL DIE if you do not get her medical treatment NOW. Find the money. You would if she was a human.
