The lower the number, the better. It also depends on how early you applied; if you apply early then more aide is available to you. I got $1200 in a pell grant for spring and fall semesters ($600 each semester) with an efc score like yours, and was also eligible for federal loans. I was going to Houston Community College and only had to come out of pocket $30. This year I had a score of 5500 and only qualified for federal loans though, no grants.
